Before you start
Due to a Non-Disclosure Agreement, I am unable to share specific details or visual assets from this project. However, I can provide a high-level overview of my process and the challenges I addressed during the project.
Project summary
Designing a platform for a startup to help users securely manage and optimize data across multi-cloud environments using AI for automation, security, and compliance.
Problem
Organisations struggle with data security, accessibility, and compliance across multiple platforms while maintaining efficiency and minimising risks.
My role
As the sole UX/UI designer, I handled:
- User research & flows
- Design system setup
- Mockups, prototypes & documentation
Process
- Stakeholder meetings to define goals and analyse personas & user journeys
- User flows, mockups, and quick internal testing due to time & budget constraints
- Stakeholder reviews, refinements, and design handoff with full documentation
Solution
- Clear, structured tables and intuitive processes for data management
- Support team feature for faster, more accurate user assistance
Outcome
Though still in development, stakeholder feedback confirms a simpler, more intuitive data management experience.
Lessons and challenges
- Managing all UX/UI tasks alone
- No real-user testing, relying on stakeholder feedback
- Time constraints required fast iteration
- Future focus on integrating user validation
General
Designing a platform for a startup that empowers users to easily and securely manage, protect, and optimise their data across multi-cloud environments, leveraging the power of AI to enhance automation, ensure compliance, and improve data security and accessibility at scale.
Problem
As the volume and variety of data continue to grow, managing and securing it across multiple platforms has become increasingly complex. Organisations face challenges in ensuring data accessibility, compliance, and security, while also maintaining operational efficiency and minimising risks associated with data breaches and inconsistencies.
Role & responsibilities
As the only UX/UI designer on this project, my responsibilities were quite broad. I was responsible for everything from research and defining user flows to setting up the design system, creating mockups and prototypes, and writing documentation and user stories for the development team.
Process
The entire process was based on close collaboration with the VP of Engineering from the stakeholders’ side.
The first step was a meeting with stakeholders to understand their business goals, ideas, and gather requirements. During this meeting, stakeholders provided previously prepared personas and a user journey, which served as the foundation for my work.
Next, I focused on creating user flows, selecting and setting up the design system, and designing the initial mockups. Unfortunately, due to time and budget constraints (as is often the case), usability testing had to be skipped. However, I managed to conduct quick informal testing with my colleagues.
The mockups were then reviewed with stakeholders and refined based on business needs. Once approved, I prepared detailed requirements and documentation for the development team. The final design was then presented during the design handoff meeting.
Additionally, if time allowed, I conducted design reviews and reported any bugs I encountered.
As the app continues to evolve, the concept adapts, and new features are developed following the same process.
Solution
The final designs for the currently developed features are primarily based on clear, readable tables and straightforward processes for adding new objects.
Additionally, a feature was introduced for the support team, allowing them to work directly with user data to provide necessary assistance quickly and accurately when needed.
Outcome
Since the project is still in progress, I can evaluate its outcome only based on stakeholder feedback and internal testing. So far, the solutions developed indicate that working with data is becoming simpler and more intuitive.
Lessons & challenges
One of the main challenges was balancing multiple responsibilities as the sole UX/UI designer while ensuring an intuitive experience for complex data management. Without usability testing on real users, I had to rely on stakeholder feedback and internal reviews to validate design decisions.
Time and budget constraints also required prioritising execution over extensive research, making it crucial to refine solutions iteratively. However, close collaboration with the VP of Engineering helped align business goals with user needs.
As the project continues, I aim to integrate more user validation to ensure the final product effectively addresses real-world challenges.
